Former Manchester United captain, Gary Neville, has claimed that Arsenal players have “uncoachable” under Unai Emery, after the Spaniard was sacked on Friday.
Emery was sacked hours after the Gunners lost 2-1 at home to Frankfurt in the Europa League.
Freddie Ljungberg has since been appointed on a temporary basis.
Neville believes Arsenal defender is to blame for the departure of Emery.
“This has been a mess, let’s be clear about this, these defenders like [Shkodran] Mustafi, Sokratis and [David] Luiz are uncoachable,” Neville told Sky Sports News.
“I do not know who was responsible for recruiting over the last few years, but if I was on the board at Arsenal I will give them the right to skyrocket.
“There is no way Emery told [David] Luiz to step two, three times to capture the offside player, or even some of the horrible things you see from the other defenders.
“You saw what happened with [Granite] Xhaka other week, Emery is an honorable man and this goes much deeper than just the coach.
“He may feel quite happy to leave what is quite simply a bunch of average players.”
